This is the dramatic moment an airport roof collapsed as a storm battered northeast India on Sunday evening.

Dozens of passengers were waiting for flights during the torrential weather when the accident happened at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam.

Heavy rain was lashing the building when the structure suddenly gave way - sending water and debris crashing to the ground.

Passengers scrambled for safety and none of them were hurt in the collapse. Employees were seen frantically trying to mop up the water that was dripping from the damaged ceiling, with water-collection containers strategically placed to contain the leakage.

Airport officials blamed the incident on strong winds and an overflowing outlet pipe. They said there were no injuries.

The adverse weather conditions also led to the diversion of at least six flights, officials said.
