This is the hilarious moment a robber was foiled by a pet dog guarding a house in the Philippines.

CCTV footage shows the thief wearing a black cap climbing over the metal fence of a house in San Carlos City in Negros Occidental province early morning on April 2.

The man tiptoed through the patio and covered the lower half of his face with his shirt to hide his identity.

He then peeked out of the corner to check the garage - only to be greeted by the growling Groenendael named Blackie charging at him.

The intruder was sent fleeing as the loyal pooch charged at him.

Blackie's owner, who did not want to be named, said: 'There have been a lot of thieves in our area so we really need police visibility. Our city is no longer safe. But I feel more relieved with my dog here because he has always been alert and sharp.'

He added that he has reported the incident to police, who are now investigating the attempted break-in.
