Rescuers heroically saved a sika deer trapped in a well after an accidental fall in northern China.

The heroic video was filmed in Dalian City in Liaoning Province on March 27. Multiple rescue teams who collaborated seamlessly to save the distressed deer.

The alarm was raised in the afternoon when Wang Bo, the deputy captain of Dalian Wan Zhong Emergency Rescue Team's main urban area squad, received information about the deer's predicament near the southern gate of Baiyun Mountain's park in Xigang District.

Suspecting the deer had inadvertently tumbled into the well, unable to escape, Wang Bo led his team to the scene, joined by members from the Dalian Wilderness Nature Conservation Centre and volunteers from the Lyushun Small Animal Protection Volunteer Group.

According to Wang Bo, the deer was trapped in a man-made square well, about 60cm wide at its opening but larger below, forming a shape that was narrow at the top and wider at the bottom, with a depth of around 2 metres. "The well's opening was uncovered, and its bottom was filled with dry branches and leaves, its purpose unclear, likely an abandoned well," Wang Bo explained. The deer, he observed, seemed nervous upon spotting people at the well's mouth.

Taking caution from past animal rescue experiences, where some animals displayed aggression due to stress, the team decided to sedate the deer for everyone's safety before proceeding with the rescue. After the sedative took effect, rescuers from the three teams descended into the well. They secured the deer with ropes and carefully lifted it to safety.

"To ensure the deer's well-being, we controlled the dosage of the sedative, and the deer quickly revived after being brought to the surface," Wang Bo noted. Upon examination, the deer only had minor scrapes on its hind legs and was otherwise unharmed.

Wang Dapeng, head of the Dalian Wilderness Nature Conservation Centre, informed that the rescued deer was a newly adult female sika deer. Due to its minor injuries and after observing its unimpeded movements, the decision was made to release it back into the wild.
