A hailstorm battered a neighbourhood in northern Thailand.

Video shows hail falling onto a road amid rain in the Phon Phisai district of Nong Khai on March 29.

Resident Jirawat said: 'My head was almost hit by a hailstone. We had to wait in the house until the storm subsided because the ice was so large.'

The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) warned of intense heat across the country along with thunderstorms expected in ten provinces.

They said a high-pressure system in the north was causing the heat wave.

The capital recorded temperatures of 40C while the North was even higher at 42C. While in the south of the country, heavy rainfall with choppy seas was expected in the coming days.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are entering their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
