Dramatic Collision Triggers Liverpool Highway Chaos in UK
This footage was filmed and produced 4 December 2023.
Terrifying footage captured the moment an HGV collided with a stationary car, setting off a chain reaction that led to a three-car pile-up on Speke Boulevard in Liverpool. The incident, which occurred just before 9:30 am on December 4 last year, left a woman considerably injured.
Ian Halliday, 45, was identified as the driver of the Scania lorry involved in the collision. Footage from his dashboard camera revealed the shocking sequence of events, showing Halliday failing to slow down before crashing into the line of vehicles trapped in a traffic jam.
Following the collision, Halliday was arrested and charged with causing considerable injury by careless driving. In March, he entered an initial guilty plea to the offence at magistrates' court. Recently, Halliday received his sentence: 26 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, along with a requirement to complete 15 rehabilitation activity days. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £224 in court costs and faced a twelve-month driving disqualification, with the mandate to retake his driving test before being permitted back on the roads.
A spokesperson from the Merseyside Roads Policing Unit shared the dashcam footage, emphasizing the seriousness of the incident and the consequences for the driver. The video serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining vigilance and caution while driving, particularly in challenging conditions.
