Massive waves punish Porthleven as Storm Kathleen blasts the south west of the UK

High wind rough sea warnings had been put out by the Met Office in advance of the arrival of Storm Kathleen. Holiday makers stayed away from the beaches as 60mph winds pushed heavy swells over 20ft high into the Cornish coastline.

Spectacular sprays went over the houses and iconic Institute building, catching some storm watchers unawares. The Coastguard closed the road closest to the sea as giant waves flooded over the sea walls.
