In a bold act of civil disobedience, six dedicated individuals associated with the Riposte Alimentaire civil resistance campaign have triggered multiple portable alarms within the Carrefour Auteuil supermarket in the 16th arrondissement.

"We're sounding the alarm. Today, temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C in some French territories. March marked the 26th consecutive month above seasonal norms. Climate change is already here. Our actions serve as a reminder," they proclaimed.

Highlighting agriculture's role in generating 21% of the nation's greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to biodiversity loss and soil degradation due to excessive input use, they called out the deliberate choice of this intensive agricultural model by the retail and agri-food industry. Together, they reap excessive profits, believed to be accountable for two-thirds of inflation.

As a result, one in three French citizens struggles to afford a balanced diet, leading to food insecurity and reliance on food aid among the most vulnerable.

To break free from this cycle of charity, Riposte Alimentaire advocates for the establishment of a Sustainable Food Security system, akin to the 1946 Social Security model.

They demand state funding for local initiatives to demonstrate the scalability of Sustainable Food Security. Existing initiatives in France, such as those in Montpellier, already offer quality, local, and accessible products.
