A total solar eclipse passed over North America on Monday, with a significant part of the U.S. state of Texas in the path of totality.

The eclipse started at Mexico's Pacific coast around 1:07 p.m. CDT, crossed into the United States near Eagle Pass, western Texas, at 1:27 p.m., and then moved northeast across Texas, and many other states before reaching Canada.

In Plano, a suburban city of Dallas, the partial eclipse lasted from 12:23 p.m. to 3:02 p.m. The total eclipse, where the moon fully covered the sun, occurred from 1:41 p.m. to 1:44 p.m., lasting nearly 4 minutes.

Residents and visitors gathered at Windhaven Meadow Park to observe the event.

According to NASA, the last total solar eclipse occurred in 2017 and the next one won't happen for another 20 years.
