This is the moment the sea suddenly swelled during high tide catching out beachgoers in the Philippines.

Footage shows the island-hoppers enjoying the crystal blue waters when the water started to rise in Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte province on January 20.

The tourists fled by climbing a rock to higher ground while carrying their bags and cameras.

Tourist Jessa Daling said: ‘The waves began to swell unexpectedly. That was why we always need to be observant and extra careful in the islands when it's approaching the time of the high-tide.'
