This is the moment a quick-thinking father shields his young daughter with his arm from a falling balcony door that was torn off by strong winds.

The incident was captured on surveillance cameras inside the family apartment in Ruijin, a small town located in Jiangxi, China, at around 6 pm on April 1.

In the footage, a young girl, named Tang Zhigang, could be seen walking towards the open balcony door to close it as a light breeze was blowing in.

Meanwhile, her father sat at the nearby table having a meal.

As she came closer to the balcony, a strong gust of wind suddenly forced the glass door to come off its hinges and it flew towards the girl.

It was only thanks to her father's fast reaction that she went unharmed as he let the heavy door land on his arm to protect her.

The dad later told local media that severe weather accompanied by hail and heavy rainfall caused the 220lb door to fall.

None of them were injured in the incident.
