An aging promenade collapsed injuring three tourists taking selfies at a beach in Thailand.

The visitors walked onto the crumbling pavilion to admire the sunset and take photos when part of the structure gave way in Chonburi province on April 9.

One of the tourists plunged into the sea with her leg trapped in the concrete rubble, while her two friends were injured from falling debris.

Rescuers later arrived and removed the broken wall pinning the woman's leg. The rescue took 20 minutes.

The three tourists were taken to the Burapha University Hospital for treatment.

Staff of the cafe responsible for the pavilion's care blamed 'the weather' for eroding the structure.

Locals said the old platform - where only a skeletal frame of pillars now remained - was a popular tourist spot as it overlooked the sea and had steps leading into the water. However, it eventually fell into disrepair and was left to be eroded by the waves.

A resident named Sanit Chonthonglang, 46, said: 'The area was a popular sightseeing spot for the cafe's customers. The injured tourists likely went onto the structure to watch the beautiful sunset view in the evening but it collapsed because it was too old to support their weight.'

Another local, Suttida Na Bangchang, 35, said: 'The pavilion had been broken for a long time before the cafe repurposed it into a sightseeing spot.'

Authorities have cordoned off the promenade, which is planned to be fully demolished.
