STORYLINE:

The 300 MW compressed air energy storage station in Yingcheng, central China's Hubei Province, started operation on Tuesday.

With the compressed air energy storage technology, air is pumped into underground caverns during low-demand periods and released to generate power during peak periods.

This "super power bank" is projected to produce 500 million kWh annually, meeting the demand for 750,000 residents.
