In an ever-changing display of natural forces, the volcanic crater Gigurinn at Sundhnukur has recently taken center stage, offering photographers and spectators a captivating spectacle of lava dynamics on April 7th.

The scene unfolded dramatically as lava overflow commenced in the late afternoon, persisting well into the evening hours. However, the true marvel came later in the evening when three new openings appeared to the north of the crater. From these fissures, lava began its mesmerizing journey northward, a rare sight captured in vivid detail by onlookers.

Despite the spectacle, the lava flow did not extend significantly beyond its source, remaining contained within the vicinity of the crater. This continued activity adds to the ongoing volcanic activity in the region, with a consistent lava stream flowing southward in the same lava field in recent weeks.
