In a concerted effort to address the aftermath of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, salvage operations are underway to remove debris and wreckage obstructing the Fort McHenry Channel.

On April 7, 2024, a significant portion of the collapsed bridge truss was carefully transported by barge to a designated disposal site. This critical step in the cleanup process is part of a Unified Command's top priority to safely and efficiently reopen the channel for maritime traffic.

Utilizing specialized equipment and machinery, workers employed cranes to extract containers aboard the M/V Dali, situated at the Key Bridge incident site. The Unified Command's ongoing efforts include the removal of the M/V Dali, a crucial step in fully restoring access to the Fort McHenry Channel.

Salvage crews meticulously employed hydraulic shears to cut sections of the truss into smaller pieces, facilitating their transport to the disposal site. This meticulous process ensures the safe and effective removal of wreckage while minimizing environmental impact.

Earlier in the operation, divers from the Key Bridge Response 2024 Unified Command conducted dive operations to survey the wreckage site of the M/V Dali and the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Their surveys provide invaluable information on underwater debris, aiding the Unified Command in strategic decision-making.

As the cleanup efforts continue, the Unified Command remains steadfast in its commitment to prioritize safety and efficiency in restoring navigational access through the Fort McHenry Channel. The collaborative efforts of salvage crews, divers, and support teams exemplify the resilience and determination of the response teams in the face of adversity.
