Police are investigating after a razor blade allegedly emerged from a bar of soap being used in the shower by a Chinese man.

The man said that he had bought the Safeguard brand soap a month earlier in a local supermarket and had noticed what he thought was a piece of wire when he started to use it.

But as he scraped away at the soap, he said the razor blade emerged, and he then raised the alarm together with his wife with local authorities.

The couple recorded a video on April 9 showing the soap and saying that she had made a complaint with local health and safety officials.

In China, law enforcement officials responsible for consumer safety are known as the 12315, and the couple confirmed that they had reached out and filed a report about the incident.

The husband, from Chongqing, said: 'When I looked at it, I thought it was a wire for washing pots. Then I rinsed it with water, and it was completely exposed.'

A police report on the incident stated: 'The person called the police to say that he bought the soap at a convenience store a month ago. After using it for a period of time, he found a blade inside. It was impossible to determine the source of the blade.'

A Safeguard soap spokesman told local media that such incidents 'rarely happen'.

They added: 'Safeguard products undergo strict quality testing before leaving the factory and comply with relevant national health and quality regulations to ensure that the products are safe.'
