Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdolahian on Monday accused the United States of having given the "green light" to the Israeli bombing that killed 13 people at the Iranian consulate in Damascus a week ago and held it also "responsible" for the attack. "The fact that the United States and two European countries have not condemned the Israeli aggression against the Iranian consulate indicates that Washington has given Israel the green light to commit this crime," said the head of Iranian diplomacy during a press conference with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal al-Miqdad. Last Monday, a bombing blamed on Israel against the Iranian consulate in the city killed six Syrians and seven members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, including the leader of its Quds Forces branch for Syria and Lebanon, Brigadier General Mohamed Reza Zahedi.
The new consular headquarters was inaugurated yesterday in the presence of Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Mekdad and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

Prior to the ceremony, the two foreign ministers had a meeting at the Iranian Foreign Ministry to discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest at this time.

Damascus and Tehran have maintained a strategic alliance since the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
