A horrified family found a monitor lizard swimming in their toilet.

The woman was going to the toilet but lifted the lid to see the gruesome reptile staring back at her in Ayutthaya, Thailand, on April 3.

Footage shows her friend using a blue pole to carry the reptile out of her house and onto the road outside.

They believe the lizard had crawled up through the pipe work, where snakes and other nasties live.

She said: 'I screamed when I saw the lizard and had to asl my friend for help. I was too scared.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
