A tot is so obsessed with safety signage she had a sign-themed birthday party complete with a "no smoking" cake."

Gigi Percival, three, fell in love with sigs after seeing "keep head above water'' at the local swimming pool."

She is now so completely obsessed and family members have started sending international signage to collect.

Gigi's unusual birthday party also featured "keep head above water" and "slippery when wet" biscuits and a nudist beach "Clothing optional" sign."

A neighbour, who works at a roading company, also donated a few road signs, which were included in her party.

Parents Adam Percival, 33, and Eve Palmer, 34, have embraced their daughter's quirk and have signs all around the family house.

Adam, a breakfast radio host in Christchurch, New Zealand, said: "We find it really funny and cute."

"On her bedroom door there's a 'no entry,"

authorised personnel only' sign.

"We have a 'Slippery when wet' sign in the shower and she has a 'no smoking' sign on her shelf."

"We just want her to be herself."

A couple of weeks after seeing the sign at the swimming pool, Gigi spotted a "no smoking" sign at Auckland Airport and this when her obsessions started. "

Adam said: "They [people] can't quite believe it when they hear about it. "

"They're shocked to start off with because she's only three but they come around to it because it's so cute."

"It's such a hit in the family group chat. We have family from all over like the US, Australia, Europe and they send us signs they see to show her."

Gigi is only just learning how to read and according to Adam a bit of a rule-follower which is why she loves reading the rules on signs.

He said: "She likes the idea of rules. She understands that each one is a rule. I think she's going to be a bit of a rule-follower."

"She's just about learning to read at the moment and they're easier to read than most things too."
