A crazed driver attacked a couple's windscreen with an axe in a road rage incident.

Dashcam footage shows the old man emerging from the side of his stopped car and running towards the other motorist's vehicle in Pathum Thani, Thailand.

Furiously, he raised the weapon and hit the glass, leaving a shattering mark on the edge before it drove away from him.

Driver Nitis said he was with his girlfriend when the man got angry at him for honking.

He said: 'He followed me and overtook my car. Then he stopped and hit my car. I hurriedly drove away.'

Nitis filed a complaint to the police about the attack and was summoned by authorities to explain.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
