STORYLINE:
The fourth China International Consumer Products Expo is underway in Haikou, the capital city of south China's Hainan Province.
The six-day event hosts over 4,000 brands from 71 countries and regions.
Ireland is the guest of honor at this year's expo, with a dedicated exhibition venue showing the country's scientific and technological innovation, education, investment, tourism and culture.
Economic Counsellor of the Embassy of Ireland in China Derek Lambe said the expo is an important platform to facilitate global trade and investment.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): DEREK LAMBE, Economic Counsellor, Embassy of Ireland in China
"Global trade and investment are win-win for everybody concerned. Expo such as this helps facilitate people-to-people contacts. People get to know each other. They establish partnerships, establish linkages, and all of this can only help improve trade and investment."
He spoke highly of the Chinese market and is optimistic about the future trade cooperation between Ireland and China.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): DEREK LAMBE, Economic Counsellor, Embassy of Ireland in China
"The Chinese market is, of course, enormous. It's growing, and it's becoming increasingly wealthy and the opportunities for a small and competitive economy like Ireland are vast, which is why we invest so much in expos (such as the Hainan expo). We think the future direction for trade relations between China and Ireland has been very positive and very strong. So a lot of Chinese companies have invested in Ireland companies. So we think the future development is very, very positive."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Haikou, China.
