Storyline:
Australian police said they have ruled out terrorism in the fatal knife attack at a shopping center in Sydney on Saturday afternoon that left seven people dead, including the attacker.

The attacker, a 40-year-old man, fatally stabbed six people in the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center before he was shot dead by police, New South Wales (NSW) Police said in a media advisory.

Among the six victims killed in the attack, one died after succumbing to their injuries in hospital.

The attacker had been in the shopping center, left, and returned with a knife for his stabbing spree, NSW Police assistant commissioner Anthony Cooke told a press conference earlier, adding that the attacker engaged with about nine people, and it's clear that during those engagements he caused harm to those people.

Cooke said the attacker was shot dead by a police officer who was on her own nearby.

The attack scene was immediately sealed after the incident, as police officers conducted their investigations.

Police said the attacker's identity and motive remain to be confirmed.
