The egg donated by a poor woman for the construction of a mosque was auctioned in India.

The elderly resident, whose identity was not disclosed, gave the chicken egg when her Muslim neighbours went door to door collecting offerings to help build their place of worship in Kashmir.

The impoverished woman's donation touched the villagers and they had the idea of auctioning it off on April 15.

But after every public bidding, the buyer would return it for another auction until fetched an amount the equivalent of 2,174.49 GBP.

Footage shows the auctioneer collecting bids from the attendees. Everyone burst into cheers everytime the egg was sold.

Adding the egg's price, the neighbours were able to collect enough amount to build their mosque, with the total sum worth more than 10,000 GBP.
