Locals rescued a lost pet dog that fell into a 33ft-deep well in Thailand.

The hapless pooch named Soda had been frolicking outside when it plunged down the deep shaft hidden in tall grass in Chonburi province on April 9.

Soda's owner Pairat Rungrueng, 57, heard it crying and called animal rescuers for help.

Footage shows the volunteers rappeling down the deep hole to pull out the trapped and frightened canine. They said the rescue took 30 minutes due to the well's depth and the hot weather.

Fur mum Pairat said: 'I heard a dog crying incessantly, so I walked over to check. At first I thought it was the neighbour's dog, but I realised it was my dog because Soda hadn't returned home.

'I guessed it was being too playful and did not see that there was a well there.'
