A shocked passenger was billed the equivalent of 736,000 GBP for what was supposed to be an Uber ride for a few pence in India.

Deepak Tenguriya, a regular customer of the ride-hailing app, had booked an auto expecting to pay only 62 Rupees (0.60GBP) for the trip in Uttar Pradesh on March 29.

However, upon reaching his destination, he looked at his smartphone - only to find he was being charged an exorbitant amount.

Footage shows Deepak flashing his phone screen to display the app, which was asking him to pay 7.66 Crore in Rupees (766,000 GBP).

Deepak's friend Ashish Mishra posted the baffling glitch online, saying: 'In the early hours, Uber India unexpectedly made Deepak's driver a wealthy man, prompting him to contemplate investing in an Uber franchise.

'What makes this situation even more intriguing is that the trip has yet to be cancelled.

'By booking an auto for just 62 Rupees, my friend has become a debtor worth almost a million dollars.

A customer service agent for Uber India told Deepak the issue was being investigated.
