The FBI has launched a criminal investigation into the Baltimore bridge collapse as the removal of debris continues.

Efforts to address the aftermath of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse continue as salvors execute meticulous operations to clear wreckage obstructing vital waterways. On April 15, 2024, at Sparrows Point, Maryland, salvors undertook the challenging task of disassembling a massive 460-ton piece of wreckage from the bridge, breaking it down into more manageable sections for removal.

This endeavor is part of the ongoing debris and wreckage removal initiative led by the Key Bridge Response 2024 Unified Command, dedicated to safely and efficiently reopening the Fort McHenry channel. Utilizing the crane barge Chesapeake 1000, renowned as the largest floating crane on the Eastern Seaboard, salvors have been successful in relocating substantial pieces of supporting steel from the collapsed bridge.
