This is the spectacular moment the Mount Ruang volcano erupted in Indonesia on Tuesday evening.

Footage shows a glowing red geyser of lava spurting from the volcano's mouth as bolts of lightning arced within the smoke plume in the Sitaro Islands Regency in North Sulawesi at around 7:19 pm on April 16.

Juliana, Head of the Sulawesi and Maluku Volcano Monitoring and Land Disaster Mitigation Center, said: 'Residents have started evacuating since the afternoon. We have issued an advisory.

'There are two villages inhabited by residents, namely Pumpente Village with 332 people and Laimpatehi Village with 506 people, which are included in the volcano's danger zone.

'As far as possible they were evacuated to Tagulandang, where the Tagulandang sub-district head has prepared a shelter for the evacuated residents.'

Local media reported that Mount Ruang was continuing to erupt on April 17 morning.
