Residents were alarmed to find a giant python crushing a stray dog to death under their house in the Philippines.

Footage shows the beast slithering in a hole in the home's floor while a dog's high-pitched whining can be heard from the villagers' house in Cebu City, Cebu province, on April 11.

Terrified of the snake's imposing size, the homeowners called authorities who sent snake wranglers to dig up the floor hoping to locate the python. However, the reptile is still missing.

Local disaster officials said they have also sought help from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to find the snake.

The residents have temporarily evacuated the home as the python is still at large.

The DENR had earlier said that the spate of recent python sightings in Cebu City is due to the animals' mating season and the hot weather.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
