In the wake of a magnitude 5.7 earthquake near Koshima, Kumage-gun, Kagoshima, Japan, a video has emerged capturing the unsettling juxtaposition of seismic activity and volcanic unrest.

The quake, which struck on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024, at 7:38 am local time, registered at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface. Initially reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the event was swiftly documented, with a subsequent report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) listing the quake at magnitude 5.8.

While early assessments indicate minimal damage from the earthquake, its impact was likely felt by residents in the vicinity, including those in Koshima, a community of around 1,200 people located approximately 141 km from the epicenter.
