SOUNDBITE (English): ALLAN MAJURU, CEO, ZimTrade
"If you look at China, it's one of our biggest trading partners both on exports and on imports. On the export side, you realise that slowly we are diversifying into horticulture, I think quite recently the protocol on export of citrus was put into place. And last year, we managed to export more than 40 containers of citrus into China, and we are currently discussing the one for avocados and this is being led by the Ministry of Agriculture with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so we want also to incorporate blueberries, pecan nuts, chillies, and sesame, just to mention a few, to make sure that we grow the export basket and diversify it to China."
Official data show that trade between China and Zimbabwe reached a record 3.12 billion U.S. dollars in 2023, up 29.9 percent from the previous year.
