Lightning strike shatters building's roof in eastern China
A lightning struck a residential building, causing its rooftop to collapse into a gaping hole in eastern China.
The aftermath video was filmed in Wenzhou City in Zhejiang Province on April 17.
Local residents recounted being jolted awake by the deafening roar of thunder, only to wake up to a scene of devastation in the morning. Bricks littered the ground around the collapsed structure, and parked vehicles below were not spared from the barrage of debris.
Officials from the Zhejiang Longgang Emergency Management Bureau assured the public that while the building had been struck by lightning, there were fortunately no casualties reported.
Community authorities are currently overseeing the aftermath.
A staff member from the Yueling Community in Longgang City shed light on the incident, revealing that the affected building was a five-story private residence situated in a relatively spacious area.
Thankfully, the top floor was unoccupied at the time of the strike. Precautionary measures, including cordoning off the area, have been swiftly implemented.
Despite the damage inflicted, the building has not been deemed uninhabitable. Residents from the first to fourth floors can continue to reside comfortably. Repairs to the damaged section will be the responsibility of the homeowner.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
