STORYLINE:
A magnitude-5.6 earthquake rocked the northern Turkish province of Tokat on Thursday, according to the country's disaster management authority AFAD.
The earthquake struck at 6:11 p.m. local time (1511 GMT), with its epicenter located in the town of Sulusaray in Tokat province, approximately 450 kilometers east of the capital Ankara, according to AFAD.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The quake was felt in neighboring provinces, private broadcaster NTV reported.
Teams from the AFAD and other relevant agencies were investigating the situation at the scene, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on social media platform X.
Türkiye is crisscrossed by active seismic faultlines. In February 2023, two powerful earthquakes jolted southern Türkiye and Syria within several hours, killing more than 53,000 people in Türkiye, and leaving millions homeless.
