This is the heartwarming moment police saved a drenched cat that was clinging to a car door during floods in Dubai.

Officers spotted the moggy on April 17 following torrential downpours that caused widespread floods in the United Araba Emirates (UAE).

Police said that across the Persian Gulf region, including in Oman, at least 24 people have been killed by the floods.

An estimated 25cm of rain - around twice the UAE's yearly average - fell in a single day, leaving much of the city's outdoor infrastructure underwater.

The Dubai International Airport was thrown into chaos with arrivals diverted and departing flights cancelled.
