This is the horrifying moment a crematorium wall collapsed killing two girls and three men in India on Saturday night.

The youngsters Tanya, 11, and Khushboo, 10, were walking down the narrow street when the 20ft high concrete structure gave way in Gurugram, Haryana, at 6:24 pm local time.

Three men who were sitting next to the wall smoking shisha pipes were also crushed to death. They were identified as Devi Dayal, 72, Manoj Gaba, 55, Krishna Kumar, 52, from the homes nearby.

Rescuers pulled the victims from the rubble but they were later pronounced dead. A fourth man, Deepa Pradhan, 56, is being treated in hospital for his injuries.

Police are investigating the collapsed wall, which the local government owns.

Station House Officer Avtar Singh from the New Colony police station, said: 'The construction quality was poor. Despite being government property, the wall did not have any beam, pillar or column. The authorities involved are being probed for the suspected negligence.'

The mother of the dead schoolgirl Tanya said residents had repeatedly asked local government officials to repair the crumbling wall.

She said: 'Our pleas fell on deaf ears. We would not have had to see this day had the wall been repaired in time.

'My daughter was walking with her friend when the wall collapsed on them.'

The grieving mother said that wooden logs had previously been placed against the wall to support it. However, they could not bear the weight and would 'shake when a vehicle passed'.

Officials said the managers of the local crematorium were being probed for negligence.
