In a concerted effort to restore navigational access to the vital Port of Baltimore, Unified Command teams are diligently working to clear a Limited Access Channel obstructed by debris from the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge.
On April 19, 2024, responders from the Key Bridge Response 2024 Unified Command sprang into action, employing the formidable capabilities of the crane barge Chesapeake 1000. This colossal floating crane, renowned as the largest of its kind along the Eastern Seaboard, was instrumental in the delicate operation of relocating a substantial section of supporting steel wreckage.
The successful removal of these sizable debris pieces marks a significant milestone in the mission to reopen the Limited Access Channel, crucial for facilitating one-way ship traffic to and from the Port of Baltimore.
