Baltimore, USA - April 16, 2024

In a concerted effort to restore vital maritime pathways, a fleet of specialized barges embarked on a monumental task on April 16, 2024, lifting a section of the Francis Scott Key Bridge over the Patapsco River.

Led by the Chesapeake, a derrick barge boasting a formidable 1000-ton lift capacity, alongside the Ferrell, a revolving crane barge with a lifting capability of 200 tons, and the Oyster Bay, a crane barge capable of hoisting 150 tons, the operation marked a pivotal moment in ongoing efforts to reopen the federal channel.

Under the direction of the Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV), these mighty vessels are poised to tackle the arduous task of removing submerged portions of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, a critical step toward restoring navigational access in the region.
