Truck skids on wet road and crashes into noodle shop
The 14-wheeler lost control while driving along a wet road in Thailand on February 16.
Dashcam footage shows how a motorcycle rider was nearly crushed by a pickup truck sent skidding by the collision across the road in Samut Sakhon province.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Yothin Chueaboonme of the Krathum Baen Police Station said a pickup, a sedan, a motorcycle, an electric pole, and a noodle restaurant were damaged in the crash.
The truck driver Kampanat Sangkhamanee, 38, claimed he lost control because the vehicle in front of him braked abruptly.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Yothin said: 'The truck driver was summoned for further questioning before facing further legal action. We have evidence gathered from surveillance cameras and dashcams.
'This accident caused a traffic jam along the Puttha Sakhon road.
'Fortunately, there were no severe injuries or fatalities. Only two people were slightly injured, including the motorcycle rider Chatchapong Buncharatreueng and a pedestrian Surinda Doksrok, who were treated by the rescue team.'
Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
