A sniffer dog named 'Messi' retired with a memorable celebration.

The eight-year-old Labrador Retriever had a farewell party organised by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in Washington, D.C., on April 19.

Footage shows the pooch walking around the hall, where he was surprised by dozens of balls falling from above and a party popper filling the room with confetti.

Stationed at Reagan National Airport just outside the nation's capital, Messi served as a passenger-screening canine, diligently sniffing for traces of explosives and ensuring the safety of travellers and staff.

According to the TSA, 'Messi's love for his job was palpable, and his favourite pastime was playing fetch with a tennis ball after a busy day at work.'

Messi underwent rigorous training, spending 16 weeks honing his skills at the Joint Base San Antonio Lackland, where he served alongside his handler, Peter.

His official 'Do Not Pet' patch was removed from his harness, marking the end of his tenure as a working dog.
