Spanish Civil Guard executes historic rescue mission with night vision goggles
Spanish Civil Guards executed a historic rescue mission with night vision goggles.
The operation happened at the Elola shelter in Avila, where an individual sustained a head injury from falling ice.
They received the distress call from the Operational Services Centre, prompting the Air Service to dispatch a helicopter for an urgent rescue operation in the rugged terrain of the Sierra de Gredo region.
Rescue personnel opted to equip themselves with night vision goggles to aid them in dusk and were accompanied by the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) where the helicopter crew embarked on the mission.
They used a searchlight to illuminate the area, and the crew meticulously scoured the landscape before seamlessly transitioning to using night vision goggles to locate and extract the injured individual from the Elola shelter.
