Activities such as a writing competition, calligraphy displays, and cultural talks were held late last week at the Confucius Institute in Barcelona to celebrate this year's United Nations Chinese Language Day which falls on April 20, attracting many students and cultural enthusiasts.

"It's an important recognition of the Chinese language, and it gives us the opportunity to celebrate it with a series of activities, while on the international level, it resonates among Chinese-speaking countries."
According to the Chinese Embassy in Spain, more than 50,000 people are currently studying Chinese in Spain.
