This rhino was spotted awkwardly itching its underbelly making for hilarious viewing at Kruger National Park.

The filmer told Newsflare: "While guiding a group of safari tourists in the Kruger National Park, we came across two rhinos standing in a dry riverbed. The rhinos were just standing there in the sand, not really doing anything which we found strange. It seemed like they were both staring at this one rock sticking out of the sand in the dry riverbed. While staring at the rhinos who were staring at the rock, I quickly realised what was going on.

"The rhinos were analysing and sizing up the rock, to be used as a rubbing post. Rhinos spend most of their time grazing in the tall grass where they pick up a lot of ticks and parasites all over their bodies, and that becomes very itchy eventually. This itchiness will occur all over their bodies, and also in the hardest to reach parts of their bodies. For that, rhinos need a rubbing post, which will be at different heights and can range from tree trunks to rocks. It all depends on where the current itch is on their bodies.

"To our amusement, the one rhino decided to go first, and everybody found this hilarious to watch. The rhino first started scratching the area around its belly, before proceeding to the very hard to reach parts between the legs. This was the funniest part to watch, with the rhino sitting down on the rock with its backside while moving back and forth. We could see that the rhino was hitting the sweet spot, finding great relief scratching the important areas which was hard to scratch in any other manner.

"The rhino looked very relieved by his actions, and I couldn’t believe how entertaining it actually was for everyone to see this large beast going about a very creative and amusing way to relief a great itch. Once done, the rhino moved on and eventually the other rhino followed its example. Just another fascinating sight out in the African wild."
