A monkey turned aggressive and bit an elderly man on his face after a female tourist inappropriately touched it in southern China.

The video was filmed in Leshan City in Sichuan Province on April 22.

In response to the incident, a staff member stated that they immediately attended to the injured tourist's wounds and discussed potential vaccinations.

Emei Mountain's monkeys, known as Tibetan macaques, have gained notoriety for their problematic behaviour. These monkeys, the largest species in the macaque family found in China, often boldly snatch items from tourists, including bags and food, and sometimes leap onto visitors, making faces before running off, which can be perceived as provocative.

Due to their size and boldness, these interactions can sometimes lead to injuries, including severe ones like fingers being bitten off.

The problematic behaviour of the Emei Mountain monkeys is exacerbated by tourists irresponsibly feeding them, which not only satisfies their need for interaction but also encourages beggarly behaviour among the monkeys. This leads to increased population and territorial aggression due to cramped living spaces.

Furthermore, poor diets consisting of junk food contribute to various health issues, triggering more aggressive behaviour.

Thus, the issues with Emei Mountain's monkeys are not solely due to their species characteristics but are significantly influenced by human interactions, which have perpetuated their bad reputation among visitors.
