STORYLINE:

A fashion show featuring the intangible cultural heritage of Talli, traditional embroidery skills preserved in Egypt, was held Sunday in Cairo.

Exquisite pieces illuminated the runway as the heritage of Talli craftsmanship intertwined with contemporary design throughout the show.

This was a new move by the National Council for Women to revive the traditional embroidery art in Egypt and further promote it to the global market.

SOUNDBITE (Arabic): EMAN AFIFI, Director of fashion show
"I am the director of this fashion show today, and I am very happy that I am presenting something that is of Egyptian heritage. How can we return to our origins, customs, heritage, good things, our morals, and all the things that we remind people of? I'm very happy to be there for something like this."

Talli is usually created with a combination of different materials of valuable threads, including silk and gold, in the embroidery process. These are skillfully woven into colorful shapes with symbolic meanings.
