USA: US 101 Bridge Replacement Project Reaches Concrete Pour Milestone
Goleta, CA, USA - April 18, 2024
The City of Goleta has announced a significant milestone in the US 101 San Jose Creek Bridge Replacement Project, with the completion of the concrete pour for the northbound bridge deck. This development, shared by Caltrans, marks a crucial step forward in the endeavor to replace the aging bridge infrastructure in Goleta.
Currently, the newly poured deck is undergoing a seven-day curing period, paving the way for the next phase of construction. This phase will involve the installation of approach slabs adjacent to the bridge abutment and the laying of concrete pipes for the drainage system. Subsequently, attention will turn to earthwork, sub-base, and base construction in preparation for the application of fresh pavement.
Anticipating a traffic switch in July, where two-way traffic will be diverted onto the newly completed northbound bridge, the project is set to maintain traffic flow with temporary striping. Following this, efforts will shift towards replacing the southbound section of the bridge, ensuring minimal disruption to commuters.
The $20 million project is under the supervision of MCM Construction Inc, based in North Highlands, CA, with an expected completion date in June 2026. Concurrently, construction is underway for the replacement of San Jose Creek Bridges on State Route 217. Caltrans is actively engaged in concrete and drainage work for this project, urging travelers to remain vigilant of bicycle riders in the construction zone.
