Two foxes had a tender encounter on an island in California.

Footage shows the pair of wild animals affectionately grooming each other at the Channel Islands National Park on March 8.

The two island foxes were nestled amidst tall grass, showing their remarkable monogamous nature meaning that they would be mates for life.

The park's experts said that pairs are often spotted together from January onwards, with mating typically occurring between late February and early March.

The gestation period for island foxes is believed to be similar to that of the grey fox, lasting around 52 days.

As a result, adorable fox pups are expected to come out from late April through early May.
