Pregnant lady stranded in an ambulance after an avalanche, along Srinagar Leh highway, rescued
An ambulance carrying an expecting mother from Kargil was stuck after an avalanche occurred at Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway on Tuesday evening.
An official said that an avalanche occurred at the Panimata area on the Zojila Pass on Tuesday evening in which an ambulance carrying an expecting mother got stuck.
A team of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Project Beacon, and Traffic Police Rural Kashmir successfully rescued the expecting mother and after hectic efforts, the ambulance was made to cross towards Sonamarg side.
The rescue operation was done under the supervision of SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh.
Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police, Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh told Greater Kashmir that it was the collective effort of the BRO’s Project Beacon and Traffic Police Rural Kashmir that the expecting mother from Kargil was rescued and safely taken towards Sonamarg for her treatment.
Singh said that the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, particularly the Zojila Pass stretch, was avalanche-prone and the commuters must follow traffic advisories and take caution while travelling on the road.
