Firefighters from Kern County fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 2541 Cold Creek Ave. in the city of Rosamond. Upon arrival, they found a single-story house with heavy fire and smoke coming from the windows on the front and side of the structure. The fire had already vented through the roof reaching skyward from inside the house, reported Fire Information Officer Jon Drucker with the KCFD.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to lend support in the battle of the 2-Alarm fire.

Vehicles parked in the driveway of the burning home indicated the potential of victims inside the home. Drucker reported that though the structure's strength was compromised and there was a partial roof collapse, firefighters fought to search inside for victims. Unfortunately, an individual was found deceased in the living room area. No other victims were located.

"The Kern County Sheriff Coroner’s Office and Kern County Fire Investigation Unit were requested to the incident. Firefighters remained on scene until 100% extinguishment was achieved," said Drucker.

The crew of 36 firefighters also managed to keep the flames from extending to nearby structures.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
