This is the dramatic moment a car crashed into a motorcycle shop when the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.

CCTV footage shows the Toyota Corona sedan veering off the road into the BBG Motor secondhand store in Samut Songkhram, Thailand, on April 22.

The car struck a motorcycle rider and slammed into a store worker who tried but failed to jump away in time.

Police Captain Chanathip Ongkleub of the Mueang Samut Songkhram Police Station said officers received a crash report at 5 pm.

They said three people were injured. They were the employee Supat Klangsakul, 46, the motorcycle rider Pornchai Khamsiri, 63, and car driver Sahat Sitthirung, 62, who was rushed to the Somdej Phra Phutthaloetla Hospital for serious injuries.

An alcohol test found that Sahat had not been drinking at the time of the crash.

Police Captain Chanathip said: 'The driver is fairly old and may have been tired from work which might have caused him to faint while driving. We will continue to investigate the actual cause of the crash.'

Speaking in the video, the injured store employee Supat said he tried to avoid the collision, but couldn't run away in time.

He said: 'I was inspecting a motorcycle when I heard a loud bang and saw the car barreling towards me. I jumped away, but my upper leg was still hit.

'I was so shocked and I didn't know what to do. If I hadn't moved in time, I would have been crushed against a pole and probably would have died.'

Another worker, Anothai Nakasawat, 36, said: 'I was showing a motorcycle to a customer in front of the store when suddenly, the car went zipping past me. It barely missed. I had no time to react. I would likely be dead if I had been hit.'

Authorities said the estimated total damage from the collision is more than 500,000 THB (10,900 GBP). Sahat has agreed to shoulder the expenses, using his insurance to cover the costs.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
