STORYLINE:
The Council of the Arab League renewed on Wednesday its call for the UN Security Council to take a "binding resolution" that would put an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.
At the request of the State of Palestine, the permanent delegates of the Arab League held an extraordinary meeting to discuss "the continuation of Israeli crimes in Gaza."
The delegates also deliberated on repercussions from the American veto in the Security Council vote on Palestine's full United Nations membership.
The League criticized the "inability of the international community" to put an end to the suffering of the Palestinians.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, emphasized the importance of next month's summit in Bahrain for forming an Arab position towards the "serious issues" facing the region.
