A scared stray dog with a plastic container stuck around its head was rescued in Thailand.

The pooch was starving when it was discovered by good Samaritans wandering around a grass field in Satun province on April 21.

Witnesses said they had been trying to remove the trash from its head for a week but to no avail, and it was too afraid to be near people until the volunteers came.

Footage shows light brown pooch with the plastic container as it struggled to move around the fields.

A woman lured it with a bowl of food but it fled, so the rescuers had to follow it around while maintaining their distance.

Soon after, the pooch was cornered and pinned to the ground while volunteers cut off the candy container, freeing its head.

Local Sombat Charoenkwan, 50, who called the rescue team, said: ‘I go to that place to feed the strays. Around 50 stray dogs live there.

‘We had been trying to help the dog, but it was too aggressive and would attack if you got too close. We were grateful that the rescue team helped save the dog.'

The rescue operation took two hours and was immediately fed a meal and given water.
