A leopard was rescued by members of the forest department after it fell into a well in western India's Maharashtra.

This incident occurred in Gawadewadi village, Pune, on 22 April.

Visuals showed the leopard inside the well. Forest department officials reached the spot and began the rescue operation for the wild animal.

The leopard, trapped inside the well, watched as officials lowered a cage. The big cat entered the cage, which was then hoisted by the officials. The leopard was subsequently loaded onto the back of a truck and taken away from the area.

Speaking to Newslions, RFO Smita Rajhans said that the male leopard, aged approximately one to one-and-a-half years, had entered the area in search of prey when it fell into the well. A farmer discovered the leopard inside the well after he had gone to extract water for irrigating his field.

The forest department was informed, and the leopard was rescued in an operation that lasted three hours.
